Our vision at The Hair & Beard Station is to establish a strong reputation as a community-focused barbershop in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. We can foster goodwill with local businesses and non-profits by prioritizing community outreach. This goodwill can pave the way for meaningful collaborations and partnerships that work toward the greater good of our community. Our mission is to provide exceptional grooming services while creating a welcoming, inclusive space that uplifts individuals and contributes to prosperity. And by delivering free or discounted services to local businesses and nonprofits in the community. These efforts can create a ripple effect, empowering individuals to rebuild their lives! If you would like to give back to the community, you can start by sponsoring a haircut for someone in need!
I took my love for the art of cutting hair to college as a way to make extra money, sort of like a part time job. I learned customer service by simply satisfying my friends/colleagues and giving them what they wanted.
I graduated from barber school and started working as a master barber/independent contractor. I began practicing at Precise barber salon, where I worked for 2 years, and then transitioned to All Sports barbershop, where I worked for 15 years. I was able to hone my razor, scissor, and clipper skills over time.
After honing my barbering skills and wanting to go to the next level in the industry, I worked as a shop manager for 18 months at Trimmers barber & style shop. I learned day-to-day operations and financial management directly from the owner.
Working at Trimmers taught me day-to-day operations and financial management. After that, I planned and executed the successful start up of T-randZ Barbershop. I was finally rewarded for 18 years of hard work. I operated my own business for 7 years.
After 4 years of profit gains, I was forced to temporarily close the doors on my business due to the pandemic. During this 4 month lockdown, I started an in-home barber service to accommodate my customers.
After two years of struggling to stay afloat due to financial worries and uncertainty caused by the pandemic, I made a business decision to close the doors on T-randZ barbershop permanently. I gained employment at Gould’s as a service provider/barber.
I took this time to reorganize my business plan. After careful planning and strategizing, I had an AHA! moment. I leveraged the passing of a 2018 Tennessee General Assembly bill, which now allow all Tennesseans the right to enjoy concierge barber and beauty services across Tennessee. I created an on-demand, on-line, in-home barber service as a result of the passing of the new bill.
After the pandemic caused so much disruption in today’s economic landscape, my wife and I were forced to reorganize. We created a marital partnership and came up with “The Hair & Beard Station “
We operate within a niche market targeting all types of hair.
Beyond Beards was established in 2025 as way for us to give back to the community that supports our business. We are neighbors to the city jail and the homeless mission. We believe a haircut can change someone’s day no matter how much they can or cannot pay.
I learned art concepts from trained professionals at the age of twelve.
I attended and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1986 with a 3.0 gpa majoring in math.
I volunteered to join the Navy to assist with paying my tuition as I attended college to earn my degree, simultaneously.
I attended Lemoyne-Owen from 1986-1992, I then dropped out, years later I returned in 2011, and I graduated in 2014 receiving a BBA with an emphasis in management.
I attended and graduated with honors and received my state license.
I attended and graduated from Bethel University receiving an MBA with an emphasis in management. I graduated Suma Cum Laude with a 4.0 gpa.
I attended and finished the DBA program coursework at Walden University with a 4.0 gpa.. I am presently in dissertation and labeled ABD (all but dissertation).
As we strive to be the go-to barbershop in Downtown Memphis, the Hair and Beard Station is committed to providing exceptional customer care, fostering meaningful relationships, and delivering high-quality services at competitive prices
